A Message from Matthew

December 17th, 2009

Since I launched this effort just over a month ago, I have been extremely encouraged by the response that I have received from the residents of Virginia’s 8th District as well as many others across the country.  I have heard from many Virginians who are tired of a Congress that is borrowing and spending as if there is no tomorrow, who are concerned about the proposed government takeover of the health care system, and who are opposed to the job-killing, cap-and-trade energy tax.

I have also heard from many of you that you are embarrassed to have Jim Moran as your representative in Congress, and I understand why.  In just the last two months, Jim Moran has insinuated that Virginia Republicans are Taliban sympathizers, called “un-American” those of us opposed to the trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and his 9/11 co-conspirators in a civilian courtroom, co-sponsored legislation to raise income taxes on Americans making more than $30,000 a year, asked the President to begin immediately withdrawing troops from Afghanistan, and secured tens of millions of dollars in earmarks for his campaign contributors.

Fortunately, we have begun to acquire the resources necessary to mount a strong and aggressive challenge to Jim Moran next year.  We will use these resources to ensure that the residents of the 8th District are fully informed about Jim Moran’s record when they cast their ballots in November 2010.  However, we still need additional help.

In order to ensure a successful fundraising quarter, I am asking my supporters to donate whatever they can prior to our filing deadline on December 31st.  No donation is too small.  Early fundraising dollars are the most important, and many analysts will be looking to our first fundraising report to assess the viability of our effort.  You can make a donation through this link.

I hope that you have a happy holiday season, and thank you for your continued support.
