To date, our campaign has enjoyed more success than I could have imagined when we launched our effort last November.

* In a Tarrance Group poll of likely General Election voters, we are neck-and-neck with Jim Moran in an informed head-to-head.

* We won the straw poll at the 8th District Convention by more than a 2-1 margin.

* We have placed Virginia’s 8th District “On the Radar” of the National Republican Congressional Committee’s Young Guns program.

* We have raised more money than any Republican challenger to Jim Moran ever has at this point in the election cycle.

* And we have garnered the support of a wide coalition of Northern Virginia Republican Party leaders representing all wings of our great party.

All of these accomplishments, however, will be for naught if we do not turn out the vote on Tuesday. I am therefore asking you to assist us with our 96-Hour Get-Out-the-Vote Program.

Although I have been going door-to-door since January, I have noticed in the last week a significant change while canvassing. Awareness of and support for our campaign has increased substantially as voters have received our mailings, spoken to our volunteers over the phone, and heard our radio advertising. Republicans are responding to our specific agenda for putting America back on the right track and are recognizing that our campaign represents the best chance in many election cycles to defeat Jim Moran.

Simply put, it is now our job to turn these supporters out to vote on June 8. We must not be complacent and let our chance to defeat Jim Moran slip away. If you have any time between now and Tuesday to go door-to-door or to make phone calls, please contact Nathan Parsons at nathan@berry2010.com.

This would not have been possible without your help. Thanks to your support, the BERRY’S PATRIOTS donor program was a tremendous success, and we were able to meet the fund-raising benchmark set by the NRCC. I am extremely grateful to each and every one of the hundreds of donors to our campaign who made this happen.

We have put Virginia’s 8th District in play. If I am the Republican nominee, our district will not be an afterthought come this summer and fall as we have been in past election cycles. Rather, we will be in a position to wage an aggressive, competitive, and ultimately successful campaign to unseat Jim Moran.

I know that this will not be easy. That is why we need to nominate a candidate who will be able to send out the mailings, run the media advertisements, and put up the signs necessary to get our message out this fall. And there is only one Republican campaign in the 8th District that has demonstrated the ability to do these things.

It’s still a long road until November but with your continued support, I believe that we will be celebrating a tremendous victory together on Election Day.

With the federal government running a $1.5 trillion budget deficit and millions of Americans having lost their jobs during the recession, our elected representatives need to set an example by tightening their own belts rather than asking for raises paid for with our tax dollars. Jim Moran’s vote in favor of raising his own pay is yet another indication that he has been in office far too long.  Instead of representing the people of Virginia’s 8th District, Jim Moran’s main focus now is on representing Jim Moran.

Last week, we filed our first quarter fundraising report with the FEC, and I am extremely pleased to announce that we have raised more money than any Republican challenger to Jim Moran has ever raised at this point in the election cycle.  Indeed, our campaign has now raised more money than the 2006 and 2008 GOP nominees raised in this district in their entire primary and general election campaigns.  Moreover, in the past three months, we actually raised more money from individual donors than did Jim Moran!  I am honored and humbled by this outpouring of support for our cause and believe that it is evidence of the strong desire for change that exists in the Eighth District.

In other good news, our campaign was recently enrolled in the National Republican Congressional Committee’s Young Guns program.  This is a direct acknowledgement by the Republican Party that we are conducting our campaign in the right way and that we are executing a plan that can be successful.  It has been almost a generation since the Republican Party has considered the Eighth District to be in play, but if we are successful in the June 8 primary, the Eighth District will be at the center of the fight to retake control of Congress.

I am also honored that numerous Republican leaders in Northern Virginia have joined our team in the last couple of weeks.  These party activists in Arlington, Alexandria, and Fairfax have looked over the candidates and reached the conclusion that I would be the strongest Republican nominee to go up against Jim Moran.  To see a growing list of those endorsing our campaign, please click here.

We held a great kickoff event in Arlington last Saturday.  A large and enthusiastic crowd joined us as we began the stretch drive of our primary campaign.  We will be holding numerous events in coming weeks throughout the Eighth District so please check the Events section of our website for details and come out to discuss the serious issues facing our country.  We currently have events scheduled for Crystal City, Clarendon, Vienna, and Reston, and we will soon be announcing an event in Alexandria.

His administration has undermined our special relationship with the United Kingdom through a series of slights, such as taking Argentina’s side in a recent dispute over the Falkland Islands. He has brought our relationship with Israel to its lowest point in decades by completely overreacting to the announcement of Israeli housing construction in Jerusalem. He has hung the governments of Poland and the Czech Republic out to dry on the issue of missile defense. He has failed to press for approval of the free trade agreement with Colombia, our strongest ally in Latin America. He has neglected our vital relationship with India. And he abandoned our friends in Honduras in order to come to the defense of a Hugo Chavez wannabe in that country.

It is time for us to return to a foreign policy where we stand by our friends and stand up to our adversaries. Because if we don’t, the United States surely will have fewer friends and more adversaries in the future.

Eric ran a terrific campaign last year and set forth many specific ideas for improving Virginia’s economy.  I am honored to receive his support and hope that he will continue to play a leadership role in the Republican Party for many years to come.

Americans are also frustrated by the process that led us to this point.  For example, lawmakers were given only three days to review the text of a bill that will restructure approximately one-sixth of the U.S. economy.

Now, however, is not the time to become discouraged.  Rather, it is the time to channel our anger and frustration into action.  We must redouble our efforts to defeat those representatives, such as Jim Moran, who voted in favor of Obamacare. And we must work to replace them with candidates who will vote to repeal it.

Here in Virginia’s Eighth District, I am the only candidate to date who has signed the Club for Growth’s Repeal It! pledge.  By signing this pledge, I have promised to sponsor and support legislation to repeal the Democrats’ health-care bill and to replace it with genuine market-based reform, and you have my solemn commitment that I will do just that.

House Democrats are betting that the American people will forget about yesterday’s vote come November and will instead focus their attention on other concerns.  But this issue if far too important for us to let it slip into the background, and I assure you that I will do everything in my power to prevent that from happening.
